David Suzuki successfully completed a retained search for a Country Manager and Representative Director, the leader for the Japan market entry of a European security software vendor.
When a European security software client sought consulting for identifying leadership for market entry into Japan, David Suzuki at The Ingenium Group and two other search firms were recommended. After a scan of the industry and a detailed market survey presentation, David beat out the competition to win the trust of the corporate executives and the search itself.
The executives tasked David with a retained search for their start-up Country Manager, which was a critical role worthy of an exclusive agreement. The challenge was to find a professional with these qualities: a Japanese national with a global perspective and an entrepreneurial spirit. The successful candidate must have experience in all of security software, e-commerce business, and start-up operations. This unique combination of skills, character, and background required a deep and extensive search of the market. David’s skills were well matched for this search engagement.
Over several months, David focused on the search and generated a long list of potential candidates and industry sources, numbering over one-hundred individuals. The short list came down to less than ten capable professionals. David approached these professionals and sought to understand their careers and motivations. By understanding them, David was able to match the candidates to the client and the opportunity. It came down to three finalists, all of whom were interviewed by the corporate executives and in the end, the most capable and energetic candidate selected. The client finally had the leader who would create the company’s first presence in Japan. David’s long experience as an executive recruiter in the technology industry gave him a critical edge over other firms. He understood both the client’s needs and the candidate’s career path, thus successfully closing the search.
